Algebraic and Discrete Methods in Biology

Goals

The course gives an overview of some of the methods from computer algebra and computational logic that are applied to biological problems. It is split into four parts: applications of discrete mathematics in bioinformatics, applications of mathematical logic and automated reasoning in biology, application of difference equations in population dynamics, and, application of algebraic techniques for describing pattern formation in biological systems.

This course is intended for students of mathematics or bioinformatics who are interested on the mathematical modelling of biological processes. There is no particular prerequisite for the course.
