TitleSolving Geometric Constraints By Homotopy
Author(s) Herve Lamure, Dominique Michelucci
TextNumerous methods have been proposed in order to solve geometric constraints, all of them having their own advantages and drawbacks. In this article, we propose an enhancement of the classical numerical methods, which are, up to now the only ones that apply to the general case.

AbstractGeometric modeling by constraints yields systems of equations. They are classically solved by Newton-Raphson's iteration, from a starting guess interactively provided by the designer. However, this method may fail to converge, or may converge to an unwanted solution after a `chaotic' behaviour. This paper claims that, in such cases, the homotopic method
is much more satisfactory.
